This is a project I made for a competition provided by the University of Florida - re-design the Hinkley Center's logo. I began by researching what the Hinkley Center does, as well as analyzing their current logo and other waste management companies' logos. I knew keeping Florida as part of it was important, but I also had to convey the waste management aspect of the Hinkley Center.
For my first design, I used the shape of Florida to form the nuclear waste symbol.
I liked the idea, but the logo didn't look that good and it felt too negative. So I tried again, with the idea of using a recycling icon to convey a more positive attitude about the company. I decided to include the Florida part of the icon inside the recycling bin, to convey that the center is recycling Florida. I liked this a lot better, and stuck with it for the final design, including adding the text in my new color palette.
