This is a school project in which we had to design a book cover for a famous book. I chose Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, and began by researching what the book was about, as well as what elements pre-existing books covers all shared. I then sketched out some potential ideas, and made the first iteration of the book cover design in Illustrator.
I liked the concept of the first design (billboards on top of buildings spelling out the title) but I thought the execution needed a lot of work. The composition was very busy, the colors harsh, and the font didn't seem quite right. So I started from scratch, and simplified the elements of the cover down, such as only keeping the buildings on the front page and removing the billboard with the embryo/earth. I simplified the color palette down to monochrome, and gave the buildings perspective. Finally, I chose a font that I thought much better fit the theme of the book. For a final touch, I designed the publisher logo myself so it would fit the color palette!
